oh, what great texture and detail. All that fur looks very pettable. :D

Thank you, Sage :) It was odd doing the fur after most of the face details: a quick swish and it was done, versus the teeny linework :) So I'm glad it worked for you.

Wow, Ray's hair looks... electric! I want to run my fingers through it!

Gloriana Author Profile Page said:

His hair was the inspiration for the entire picture: there were so many shots in the series where he was lit from above, like them walking down a passageway, and his hair would be almost a halo. I really wanted to play with that :) Thanks for the kind comments, wihluta!

Oh I love the way you used the red here- so dramatic! The light highlights on Fraser are lovely - I particularly like the way the light curves around his nose and mouth. Their eyes are beautiful, too.

Hello, Leyna: thank you very much :) The red was the colour of the paper: I wanted to use something dramatic (red, white and black: you can't get more dramatic than that!) where the whites and light greys would stand out. And modelling the light was the most fun part of all :)

Oh, wow, that is very very good!

Thanks!! I won't say I'm totally pleased with it myself - I wanted a lot better likeness than I achieved, especially with Ray - but it was challenging and fun to do.

Wow, this is yummy and I particularly love Ray's hair, or fur, really. Very, very pettable.

Thanks, Spuffyduds! Doing both fur and hair was fun, so I'm glad they came across!

This is really original. :D

Thanks, Vee :) It's a bit of a cheat, in that I didn't really have a back story as to *why* Fraser and Ray would have totemic animals at all. But Ray had to be something fast-moving and cute and white-furred. And Fraser with that dark pelt of his and solid body has always seemed bear-like, even though a wolf might seem to be more obvious for him.

Wonderful. I love the shading and the shadows. Amazing job.

Thankyou, Akamine :) I love working with value and shading (my proportions suck big time) so I'm glad you liked that. I'd been having a few conversations with one of my art teacher about where detail should/can lie, in the shadows or in the light; and really, I should have picked one or the other. But shadow is always easier to render in detail - at least with charcoal :)

Very detailed! And their expressions are interesting -- definitely incites my curiosity.

Thankyou, ifreet :) The shot of Ray comes from 'Ladies Man' - one of the times when he's being told to drop the case. So, oddly did the shot of Fraser, which is when he's gone back to talk to Beth Botrelle again. (I say oddly because I started off with a totally different pair of pictures to work from, and migrated to these.) That was quite an intense episode, so maybe some of that has come across in the drawing :)

The texture work is very nice, and the eyes are incredibly expressive! Which is not to discount the whole picture, it is well done, just pointing out what really grabbed me.

Only makes me think that we need much more fic of the guys channeling their arctic spirits. And Ray as a fox! Why have I never thought of that before????

Wonderful work.

Hello there - and thanks so much for the lovely comments :) :) It's great to hear what grabbed you, it really is. And especially if the eyes worked, because they are always one of my favourite parts of drawing a face :)

Only makes me think that we need much more fic of the guys channeling their arctic spirits.

Absolutely! I've since come up with Vecchio's, which is, of course, an owl. As for Kowalski and foxes, he does have that long, lean face, and that quick movement. Arctic foxes look a little too cuddly, but of course you need the blondness so a normal fox won't do :) And Fraser just works for me as a bear - that solid body - even though I was thinking more in terms of the colour and texture contrasts when I was developing the drawing.

Thanks again for commenting. I'm terribly behind in my own dsss commenting, so I'm doubly grateful to you for doing it.
